Meetings like that always fuel my resolve to select best stories and participate in literary discussions no matter what other tasks try to slow me down. Next time I suggest we read a story by one of my favourite writers, A. S. Byatt (1936-2023). I decided I should get acquainted not only with her critically acclaimed novels, like Possession and The Children’s book that I equally eagerly recommend, but also with short storie...

My dear friends, I want to most sincerely thank you for another year with Long Story Short! I am so happy to have these discussions, to see back the loyal participants and welcome new ones. In the coming year may we have more good books to read, more good people to meet and more good things to celebrate! Traditional...

S. Maugham– The fall of Edward Barnard The registration for the meeting is available here.
I decided to write a separate line about the best books of the year that we read outside this club. From my side: The fireworks of a book was Jerusalem by Alan Moore. It is simply awesome how Moore managed to get so many characters, plot lines, historical things, symbols etc in a book that, in the end of the day, is the most entertaining, funny and touching work (1300+ pages long)) Other books that impressed me include The children's book and Possession by A. S. Byatt, Gentlemen and players by J...

Hello everyone! Next meeting we will be diving into the subtle masterful writing of the Irish writer William Trevor (1928–2016). Known as one of the greatest short story writers of our time, Trevor spent his life in Ireland and England. Celebrated for his immense empathy and precise, quiet prose he was a three-time winner of the Whitbread Prize, was nominated 5 times for the Booker and mentioned in relation to the Nobel prize, To set the mood, I want to share this reflection by contemporary auth...
