Success can mean a lot of different things to different people. For me, it’s about being with the people I love, making memories with them and spending time together. It’s about having new experiences and just living. The mantra I keep coming back to is YOLO. It’s cliché — but you really only live once. So you have to make the most of it for yourself. These days, I say no to more things that I used to say yes to. I like to hear people out and I like to try new things but I trust my instincts. When I came back to figure skating, people said I would have to change my hair and I said, “No, I won’t be changing my hair.” People give me song suggestions, and I’ll take them into consideration, but if I don’t like something, I’m not going to skate to it. I want to make choices that feel like me. To feel free again, I had to unlearn routine. I was kind of stuck in the same day over and over again.
