Английская версия! 20-21-й номера ROAR. Слово редактора мое там выглядит вот так: ROAR turns exactly four at the end of March—and, symbolically speaking, that is very bad news. We are a publication that should not exist. We began publishing in the terrible spring of 2022, naively assuming we would put out “just a couple of issues,” because—as our project description says—“as long as [the current Russian government remains in power], we will do everything we can to ensure that ROAR, produced entirely by volunteers, keeps coming out.” This double issue is our twentieth/twenty-first. There is not much more to add, really. The past seven months have been a period of crisis for ROAR. We stopped publishing—we simply had no energy left. And, I think, it is extraordinarily hard to do what ROAR’s incredible team of editors, proofreaders, layout designers, and translators does: not only to work constantly with material of this emotional weight, but to do it without knowing when the work is going to end. More than anything, what got us through that crisis was our readers and colleagues, who kept reminding us that we were needed. Without that, we probably would not have made it. My gratitude to them knows no bounds. I want to thank my colleagues at ROAR for their unimaginably hard work over these four years. My deep gratitude goes to managing editor Maria Voul; to our editors and proofreaders—Mark Kantourov, Olga Chaika, Artem Khlebnikov, Elena Mikerina, and others. For the English version, I want to thank managing editor Maya Milova, editors Michael Antman, Hannah Berg, Jackie Dobbyne, Michael Kleber-Diggs, Stephanie Sandler, and our amazing team of translators. And of course, this issue would not have been possible without our wonderful design team: Masha Torovich, Elena Urman, Maria Zweig, Yulia Shcherbino, and Martha V. Special thanks to Veta Sbitnikova and her team, who handled the website design and technical support. The English version of the next issue of ROAR will be released in early May. We welcome poetry, prose, art, and sound works related to the magazine’s core themes, in any format. Please send your submissions to roar.review.2022@gmail.com. Thank you in advance. Kind regards,
Linor Goralik
