🧠 The growth trap: when "more" quietly replaces "better" We do not really ask ourselves the question of why we are growing. We just take it for granted that growth is good. More products. More users. More output. More "impact". However, the uncomfortable truth is: growth is not a value. Growth is a strategy. And when growth is the strategy, sustainability is mere decoration. So, let us take a look at the myths behind the sustainability of growth. 👇 1️⃣ Myth: "Green growth will save us." 🔍 Reality: If overall production continues to grow, even if the rate of growth decreases, the overall increase in production will still outweigh the improvements in efficiency. 💭 Lesson: Growth is not sustainable just because it is green. 2️⃣ Myth: "More access always means more good." 🔍 Reality: When everything becomes cheaper and faster, demand for everything explodes. This is not good for the environment, as the overall demand for the product increases. 💭 Lesson: More accessibility, no boundaries, means more problems. 3️⃣ Myth: "If it is profitable, it must be working." 🔍 Reality: Markets reward volume, not restraint. Profit often means speed, not sagacity. 💭 Lesson: Economic success is not the same as ecological success. 🌱 A different question to ask: Not "How do we grow this?" But "Should this grow at all?" With intention, not illusion, Sustainable Economics Club ECOSTAIN 💚
