Ever since I started driving on a regular, I’ve become more concerned about the safety aspect of the whole thing. The other day while preparing for a class on advertising, I came across a social ad that turned out to be a reminder that not all advertising is about selling something. A powerful example of a social advertisement comes from the road safety campaign by the Transport Accident Commission in Australia. In one striking video, a guy in a car is driving home after a party. Everything feels normal—until the screen suddenly freezes and his inner voice says: “I’m a selfish prick”. (a prick — придурок) Such advertising works as it doesn’t lecture. Instead, it tells a story we can all recognize—friends, music, a late-night drive—and then reveals how quickly an ordinary moment can turn tragic. What social advertisement has stayed in your memory the longest—and why?
