❗️24 параграф планируют продлить до 2027 года. The European Union (EU) plans to consider extending temporary protection for Ukrainians until March 2027. This issue will be discussed at the EU Justice and Home Affairs Council meeting, which will take place on June 12-13 in Luxembourg. Ukraine’s Ambassador to the EU, Vsevolod Chentsov, stated that the extension of temporary protection until March 2027 is linked to the current security situation in Ukraine, which remains challenging. At present, the temporary protection mechanism is valid until March 4, 2026. Meanwhile, active discussions continue within the EU regarding further actions after the expiration of this directive. Various options are being considered, including transitioning to national residence statuses such as work or student visas, as well as the possibility of granting refugee status. Next week, Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister Oleksiy Chernyshov plans to visit Brussels for talks with the European Commissioner for Migration Magnus Brunner and other European officials. During the meeting, they will discuss the conditions for further temporary protection, as well as possible mechanisms for the return of Ukrainians if the security situation in Ukraine improves after the directive’s expiration. Recall that on June 25, 2024, the EU Council already extended temporary protection for Ukrainians until March 4, 2026. According to Eurostat data, as of January 31, 2025, about 4.3 million Ukrainians who left the country due to Russia’s full-scale invasion held this status. The temporary protection program was introduced on March 4, 2022, in response to the mass exodus of Ukrainians abroad due to the war. In June 2024, the European Council decided to extend this status for another year – until March 2026.
