He is the first and only author to win the genre's two most prestigious awards, the Hugo Award and the Nebula Award, in consecutive years for his novel Ender's Game (1985) and its sequel Speaker for the Dead (1986). Raised in a Mormon family and a graduate of Brigham Young University, Card's faith has significantly influenced his writing, which often explores themes of family, community, and morality. Beyond the acclaimed Ender's Game series, his extensive bibliography includes the fantasy series The Tales of Alvin Maker and various historical and religious fiction.
