On the 5th week the Azov–Black Sea region continues to experience a sharp upward trend in freight rates. Contracts for the shipment of 3,000 tonnes of wheat from Azov to ports of the Sea of Marmara are already being concluded at USD 50 per tonne. Demand for grain remains strong both in Turkey and in Eastern Mediterranean countries, while the zero export duty on wheat continues to support the conclusion of attractive forward sales contracts. As a result, a shortage of spot tonnage persists in the region, driving freight rates rapidly higher, as many charterers are keen to complete shipments before the introduction of export quotas in mid-February. Export duties on corn and barley also remain at zero.
In the Baltic region, freight rates are likewise on the rise in Week 5. Challenging ice conditions and snowy weather have caused numerous vessel delays in the Baltic Sea, further supporting the upward pressure on rates. For freight rates please visit our website https://sealines.su/en/market-news/
