🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿On March 1 Welsh people celebrate St. David's Day, in honour of the patron saint of Wales. 📜St. David was a Celtic monk and bishop who lived in the 6th century. He spread the word of Christianity across Wales. He is believed to have died on March 1st, 589 AD . His final words to his followers were a simple but powerful message: "Do the little things, the small things you’ve seen me doing". These words still inspire many people today. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿St. David’s Day is commemorated by wearing daffodils or leeks. Both plants are traditionally regarded as the national emblems. Thousands of people gather in cities including Cardiff, Swansea, and Aberystwyth to participate in events featuring Welsh flags, or the flag of St.David (a yellow cross on a black background), folk music, and the iconic daffodil and leek symbols. The annual celebrations, marked by schools, communities, and official ceremonies, promote Welsh heritage and unity. Families gather to enjoy classic Welsh dishes, with cawl (a hearty lamb and vegetable stew) being the star of the table, alongside Welsh cakes, and Welsh rarebit. Do you remember the names of patron saints of England, Scotland and Northern Ireland? #country_studies
