Important Announcement for All Research Assistants Dear students, We recently shared an update regarding an increase in the exchange rate for Research Assistants, which had been raised to 540 KZT per USD. However, we received new information from the NU York Times indicating that this rate will be reduced to 500 KZT per USD. Yes, this is correct information. The SG Ministry of Research and Innovations visited the NURA office to obtain further comments. Nazarbayev University Research Administration Director, Assanbay Jumabekov, provided the following explanation for this decision: “Please note that Nazarbayev University receives sponsor funding for research grants in KZT at the exchange rate effective on the date of payment. During the 2025 budget planning period, the University applied an internal rate of 540 KZT/USD for grant-related payments. In light of the recent appreciation of the national currency and in order to ensure the stable implementation of research projects while mitigating potential financial risks, the University Managing Council has approved an adjustment of the internal rate to 500 KZT/USD as of today. Should there be any further significant fluctuations in the exchange rate, the University will review and adjust the internal rate as appropriate.” All research assistants will soon receive supplementary contracts reflecting the updated rate of 500 KZT/USD.
