There’s something trivial yet funny: when you read all sorts of rationalizations or cheering for Trump wrecking science and education one common theme keeps popping up. For example, some of those in support of defunding Harvard or Columbia are themselves educated, yet they didn’t quite make the cut to the highest levels of learning or research. Second and third tier scientists being against the elites is very understandable. Of course having one’s child rejected by an Ivy doesnt help - supposedly Baron Trump didn’t get into either Harvard or Columbia. Similarly, people ranting against the medical science are frequently related to the medical profession but not on the level they want to challenge. Nurses, optometrists, dentists and more “basic” MDs have risen up against the surgeons from top schools. This happened both in bolshevik Russia and the Third Reich, except those regimes valued sciences useful for war, which allowed them to preserve and even greatly advance some of the academic areas they brutally controlled. The trump revolution is directed from the top, where a bunch of unscrupulous businessmen, charlatans and media personalities loudly claim success in replacing the actual government. It has no constructive agenda orher than theft - only revenge against the smartypants and other minorities. In that sense Trump’s cult resembles an impotent - thankfully - version of Khmer Rouge, the which ended up exterminating everyone they deemed literate or, towards the end, wearing eyeglasses. Finally, remember how much of it started with the right wing hate of the so-called Critical Theory? Well, that theory is basically just an extreme philosopical view, which is obsessed with eliminating all perceived hierarchies in the society. Beware of not becoming what you’re fighting, right? The current iteration of MAGA offers a critical theory of its own - every hierarchy is challenged from the top, and conflicts resolved in favor of the dumbest, and the vilest.
