First, work on the WHAT. You can't repeat what you didn't hear or understand. You absolutely can't repeat what you think you're hearing - correctly. Don't rush to say 'I think I understand what this is about'. Anyone who says this is translating. They can translate the core of the message to their first language, and they think they got it. Maybe they did. What's more dangerous is that they think they learned it, and if they understand it, there's nothing for them to learn here. The reality is, they understand only as much as their autopilot allows. Autopilot translates, feels satisfied, and moves on. Paying attention to the HOW requires your autopilot to stop. P.S. If you struggle with the Synchronization Exercise, trying to catch, hear, and repeat every word, maybe you haven't done the 'WHAT" step. Pause. Take a break. Understand WHAT you're seeing and hearing. Only then listen to HOW they do it. Same applies to reading. First, read the passage to yourself. Feel what it's about. Let it go through your veins. FEEL the meaning. Only then attempt to read it out loud.
