Katharine Hepburn poses with a gibbon in publicity portraits released by «RKO Radio Pictures» in 1932 promoting the newly signed star’s planned first movie, a screen adaption of the 1929. Arnot Robertson novel «Three Came Unarmed» about a missionary's children from the island of Borneo who encounter difficulties adapting to life in England. The film was to be directed by George Cukor, and these photos were intended to show Kate’s natural affinity with all creatures great and small (it was later reported that the gibbon disliked Hepburn and vice-versa). The project was ultimately abandoned and Katharine’s first movie was the Cukor helmed «A Bill of Divorcement» opposite John Barrymore instead.
