Himself is a word we use to talk about a male person (a boy or a man) when he is the one doing something or when we want to make it clear that it’s about him and no one else. It can also show that the man is doing something for or to himself. For example, if a boy fixes his bike alone, you can say he fixed it himself, meaning he didn’t get help. Himself can also be used to add extra focus on the person, like saying, “He himself said it,” which shows that he said it personally. Examples: • He cut himself while cooking dinner. • John built the treehouse all by himself. • The king himself greeted the visitors at the castle gate. • After the long race, he was proud of himself for finishing. • Tim told himself to stay calm before the big test.
