The Baptism of Jesus The baptism of Jesus is an important event in the Christian faith. It happened when Jesus was about thirty years old. He went to the Jordan River, where a man named John the Baptist was preaching and baptizing people When Jesus asked John to baptize him, John was surprised. He said, “I need to be baptized by you, not the other way around!” But Jesus replied that it was right to do this to fulfill God’s plan. As soon as Jesus came up out of the water, something amazing happened. The heavens opened, and the Holy Spirit came down like a dove and rested on him.
