“The Castle of Grief” by margaret marjorie margaret marjorie is an artist who works with soundscapes and narratives, creating sonic scenes from voice and field recordings. Haunting melodies, shortness of breath, records of distance and narrowness, careful pauses and loose overlaps, fragments of the unsaid, and dreamlike mumbling. This concert is part of the work on the book-length poem that explores the monumentality of grief, attempting to embody all its aspects, as if it were a presence of a colossal building. The solace found in grief is one of life’s most beautiful swells. The weight of grief forms the most resilient foundation for an endless labyrinth of rooms and vaults. Grief is vastness, a cold, heavy, stinging wind on the cliff; it is also a form of imprisonment, a lack of vision, and a lack of breath. Meandering through grey, coarse corridors that almost reverberate your thoughts, you enter The Castle of Grief.
