The world's first solar-powered wristwatch is 50 years old. Citizen celebrated the half-century anniversary of its first solar-powered analog wristwatch with a new limited edition of Eco-Drive Photon watches. In the early 1970s, quartz watches were introduced, but their batteries were not the best. The Citizen Crysotron Solar Cell watch, released in 1976, introduced solar cells to address this issue.
