Climate disinformation was explicitly addressed at COP30 as a structural challenge to climate action. Public narratives increasingly frame fossil fuels and climate change in a positive or misleading way. One recent example is “Coalie”, a mascot introduced in the United States to promote fossil fuel messaging. In the EECCA region, climate disinformation is reinforced by limited access to environmental data and chronic underfunding of independent media. At COP30, 21 countries endorsed the Declaration on Information Integrity on Climate Change. The declaration prioritises fact based climate reporting and opens access to funding for investigative climate journalism. No country from the EECCA region has signed the declaration so far.
